My wife and I were in Xanten on the 24.10.2019 and had in advance in the network inquired, where we could have breakfast. Our choice fell on the pastry & pâtisserie "cafe DE fries", which is already in the 7th generation since 1824 in family hands. As for the criticisms regarding "stale", I would like to say in advance to those that we can be glad that such cafes still exist. I do not call this "stale", but the decor still has the old charm of coffee houses. Those who prefer these loveless, cold and uncomfortable high-gloss facilities can also have their coffee in a cafeteria. This, first of all. We opted for the breakfast buffet for a price of 10.95 euros. We found this price perfectly appropriate. You can get as much coffee, juices, rolls, meats, jams and, and, and as you like. That's why the price is more than fair. The coffee was a bit too bitter for my taste, but my wife tasted good but this taste. It's all a matter of taste. The rolls were unfortunately soft and not so fresh, but still good to eat. We really liked it all around. Since we could not pass the chocolates ;-) we indulged in this expensive luxury. This price, however, had it in itself. Almost 12, - Euro for 16 pieces of chocolates. The chocolates were rather average in taste. They tasted good, but they lacked the special taste-flash. If you buy nougat seafood at Lidl, you will get better and, above all, much cheaper. And the chocolates from café DE fries are far from Belgian chocolates. The price was therefore not justified for us. Well, you treat yourself otherwise nothing else :-) The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Apart from the expensive chocolates, we can highly recommend the cafe DE fries, "for breakfast".

Everything was excellent, the breakfast, the hot food, salads, so the whole food got from us the grade "1". But the most important thing was the service, which was very courteous and technically great. It is worthwhile at any time to stop, to linger and to enjoy in the cafe at the table.

A friendly service, a great atmosphere. There is an extensive breakfast buffet here. Always fresh and quickly filled. I love this cafe and its people there.

The best thing about my meal was the fresh bottled Bitburg Radler and it says a lot about the food.

I was here yesterday and I have to tell you, recipes with a difference I always find a good idea. I ate a cream puff with herb quark and salmon and a salad, very tasty. Prices are pleasant and staff very nice.

Somewhat stale the interior. When I was there, five empty tables were not cleared for about half an hour, even though the store was empty. My companion let the cake go back: was still cold from thawing and the ground was mushy. We will not go there anymore.

Much more than a café! Also breakfast, lunch, Kondotorei. Delicious omelette with cabbage, onions and pulled beef.
